MBRITT AND 3RD POWER COLLABORATION: THE CITIZEN GAIN CSR AMP PACK
For a truly unique amp pack experience, 3rd Power pulled out the original prototype chassis from the design archive. With 60 studio-quality profiles, players can expect a wide variety of American style clean tones as well as British style gain tones with multiple switch settings to cover everything from vintage plexi all the way to 800 land. The CSR itself has a robust bottom end but a clear top as well for a harmonically rich tone – all captured faithfully in the pack.
Performing with typical backline gear can be quite a challenge for guitar players. According to 3P’s Dylana Nova Scott, “We’re hearing from our touring artists that when they play away shows without their A-rig, other members of the band and the audio production staff note the perceived drop-off in sound quality and they’re telling me about how that negatively impacts the whole performance.” Expanding on that, Britt adds, “I originally adopted the Kemper Profiler platform as a way to take my 3RD Power amp tones on the road. Developing this amp pack with 3rd Power brings it full circle.”
With a wealth of recording studio experience under the developer’s belts, you can bet that the Citizen Gain CSR amp pack will deliver the goods in the studio as well. “The Citizen Gain CSR amp pack is an elegantly artful, versatile and inspiring collection of some of the best guitar tones 3P has ever created. Collaborating with Micheal Britt made it possible to bring these tones to the digital modeling world, and specifically to the Kemper Profiler amp platform and we couldn’t be more satisfied with the tone and performance of this pack,” said 3P. Britt adds, “My touring rig has been set for quite some time and these new profiles have come in and immediately bumped several of my old go-to tones. I couldn’t be happier!”
The clean channels are divided up by speaker type:
3P CSR C profiles were profiled with a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker.
3P CSR G profiles were profiled with a Celestion Alnico Gold (50) speaker. 3P CSR 80 profiles were profiled with a Celestion Classic Lead 80 speaker.
The gain channels were just numbered sequentially as I profiled them starting with 1 1, 1 2, 1 3… all the way through 2 9. The 3rd digit of the name/number is a version number of that numbered series. For example, 2 4 1 and 2 4 2 share the same amp settings but use a different speaker combination. During the making of my IR pack and Kemper Cab Pack, I utilized many different speaker cab combinations and blends, so those techniques are being used in the 3P CSR pack gain profiles as well, so you are hearing a blend of cabinets on most rigs and different cabinet blends get their own 3rd number in the sequence. Some lean more heavily toward the 212 w/ a 57 and some have the 412 cab slightly hotter. I found that this gives even more variety to an already versatile amp. The only caveat is that I still tried to make them all sound good to me, which may not match everyone’s taste. I also tweaked and tested these profiles at a pretty good bit of volume. At lower volumes, you may need to adjust the definition up or dial in a little bit of treble and presence. I tried to leave plenty of room for +/- tweaking.
